Winter tires for bicycles: top 10 products compared
In November 2021, the ÖAMTC (Österreichischer Automobil-, Motorrad- und Touring Club) published their most recent test of winter tyres for bicycles and electric bikes. The test was extremely thorough and the tyres’ braking ability was tested on both snow, ice and on asphalt.
Tests included winter tires with studs (reTyre, Schwalbe, Continental, Kenda), winter tyres without studs (Veloplus, Michelin and Nokian) and a regular, “summer” tyre – Schwalbe's most popular Marathon, as a reference for comparison.
While the tyres were compared and graded, the conclusion is that special tires have their own advantages and disadvantages, so it is best to choose them depending on the area of application.

Wir haben nun alle Fahrräder auf reTyre umgestellt, so kann der Winter gerne kommen :-) Meine Töchter fahren Prophete E-Bikes von 2013, auch da haben die Reifen gepasst. Man muss beim einstellen genau arbeiten damit der Reißverschluss nirgendwo hängen bleibt. Das gleiche gilt für die Backenbremse. Nur für den Dynamo habe ich noch keine gute Lösung gefunden, der macht ein unschönes Geräusch wenn er über den Reisverschluss Anfang/Ende rollt. Jetzt haben wir erst einmal Lichter mit Batterie montiert, der Dynamo funktioniert im Notfall, nur dann halt mit Klappern.
Ich bin sehr froh dass meine Kinder nun viel sicherer unterwegs sind! Meine 11 Jährige montiert die Profile selbstständig, Kinderleicht!

Have been using the Retyre system for a few years and it has been brilliant. All weathers ice, snow. The ice racer is definitely the best option for early morning cycling to work.

Ich bin 500 km im Monat auf meinem Fahrrad, es hat komplett mein Auto ersetzt. Also egal welches Wetter - es gibt keine Ausreden. Entsprechend wichtig sind also die Reifen, dieses Problem habe ich durch reTyre nachhaltig gelöst. Ich bin schwer beeindruckt, die Reifen sind hochwertig und schnell ist der Profiwechsel vollbracht. Jetzt im Herbst habe ich das Stollenprofil drauf und bin im Matsch und auf Laub sicher unterwegs. Und das beste: Wenn Eis kommt mache ich einfach die Spikes drauf :-)

I received the reTyre system in October 2022 before the first snowfall in Calgary. They have been fantastic! I love how they come on and off so quickly if needed and the zipper system seems very secure when they are on. The traction on the compact ice/snow is very good and leaves me very confident as I commute to work on the bike trails/pathways. So glad I found these!
